Open Funding Opportunities
Saint Louis MHB only accepts applications when we have an open funding call; we do not accept applications on a rolling basis unless stated for a specific grant opportunity. To receive notices for new grant opportunities, sign up for our mailing list in the footer of our website. Contact us anytime throughout the year if you would like to discuss a funding need for a program or service you provide.
Apply for Funding
To apply for funding, you must first create an account in our grant management system.
The first time your organization applies to one of our open funding opportunities, you will need to create an account in our secure online grants application portal. This tutorial can assist with questions you have about getting started, or you can contact us with questions @ stlmhb@stlmhb.org.
If someone else from your organization has created an organizational account on our grant application site but you have not created your own individual user account yet, either someone with access to your account can add you or you can contact us. This tutorial gives instructions on adding a user to your organization. You can also email us at our team email and we will provide you with individual login credentials to access your organization’s site.

– If someone else in your organization has already created an account, please email us. We can provide credentials if an organization account already exists.
3. Click “Apply” on the top of the webpage. This will take you to a list of current open funding opportunities.
4. You can preview and download a list of questions for each open application by clicking on the “Preview” button, then selecting “Question List” on the top right side of the webpage.
5. When you are ready to apply, select the “Apply” button for the corresponding funding opportunity.
6. Complete the questions. Anything marked with an asterisk (*) is required.
7. You may save and return to the application as much as needed.
8. Submit Application when it is ready before the deadline.
If you have any issues with the system, or your application, contact us anytime.
Collaborate Feature
Our online grant portal has a feature called Collaborate. You will notice a blue button in the top right corner of your application form that says Collaborate. This will allow you to invite colleagues within your organization to work on a form rather than having to share login and password information. Click HERE for a step-by-step written tutorial with screenshots.
Grant Application Review
Once you have submitted your application, it will be first reviewed by our staff, who may reach out with additional questions for clarification. Applications are reviewed by our staff, board members and some are also reviewed by external community reviewers. Timing of review and notification varies based on grant type; more details can be found in the corresponding grant RFP.

Wellness in Neighborhoods – A Mental Health Public Awareness Campaign
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING WARDS HAVE ALREADY BEEN APPROVED FOR GRANTS AND THEREFORE ARE NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR ADDITIONAL GRANTS: 3, 8, 9, 10 AND 13
Saint Louis MHB and St. Louis Area Violence Prevention Commission (VPC) are bringing a message of wellness into selected St. Louis City Wards (Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 14). MHB staff will be visiting neighborhood groups to present about mental health awareness, self-care and how to access help.
Here are some of the tips our staff members will be sharing:
Normalize Conversations About Mental Health
Mental health is how we think, feel, and act
Physical health and mental health are linked
Our mental health is on a range from good to poor.
When our mental health is good, we think positively, feel confident and act calmly
Poor mental health is when everyday things become difficult to cope with
Make checking in on yourself a routine.
How am I feeling today?
What has been worrying me lately?
Am I providing my body with its basic needs?
What am I doing to bring myself joy?
Who do I have in my corner?
Practice self-care. Be patient with yourself!
Do a simple activity that you enjoy
Write or read about something that interests you
Find quiet time to just sit and be still
Spend time outside in nature
Make art or express your creativity
Listen to or play music
Do physical activity that is calming like walking or yoga
Do physical activity that is energizing like dancing or exercising
Learn a new skill
For more ways to support mental wellness in your neighborhood whether you have 5 minutes or 8 hours, click here. To learn more about our partners who are doing great work in St. Louis, check out our Mental Health Awareness Month insert from the St. Louis American.
To further support Wellness in Neighborhoods, MHB will award up to $5,000 in the seven St. Louis City Wards that MHB Staff is visiting to host fun, social neighborhood-level events focused on mental health and well-being and that offer education on how to access mental health services and supports. You can preview the application questionshere.
Eligible applicants: Must be legal entities such as nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, community development corporations or businesses. Informal groups such as neighborhood associations, block units, or clubs must be sponsored by a legal entity. The sponsoring legal entity will submit the application for funding. If selected, the sponsoring legal entity will be responsible for receiving, managing, and reporting on the grant funds.
Planning Committee: If there are multiple neighborhoods in your Ward interested in conducting events, we recommend establishing a planning committee of three or more residents across the Ward. The planning committee may propose multiple events and activities in one application as long as the combined total of all events does not exceed $5,000.
Funding Decisions: Multiple applications from one Ward may result in all applications being returned to the project contacts with a request by MHB staff for coordination. MHB will have final approval on which events are funded. Submission of a proposal does not guarantee funding.
Deadlines:
October 1 – October 31 for events in December 2024 or later
November 1 – November 30 for events in January 2025 or later
December 1 – December 31 for events in February 2025 or later
January 1 – January 31 for events in March 2025 or later
February 1 – February 28 for events in April 2025 or later
March 1 – March 31 for events in May 2025 or later
